

At the age of fourteen Sam entered the film industry in Tel-Aviv, Israel as a camera loader. There he met many people who have influenced and encouraged his pursuit as a successful film director. The first motion picture he worked on was the classic Te'alat Blaumilch. Plot Summary: A madman escapes from the asylum in Tel-Aviv, and starts digging a canal right in the middle of one of the main streets. Directed by Ephraim Kishon.
After graduating from the film and television academy in
Berlin and two years apprenticeship with the German
television, in the late 80th, Sam helped pioneere the
use of electronic newsgathering systems in coope-
ration with the electronic camera company ikegami
and became so the first in Europe to put in use
ENG crews.
Sam continued his work in Germany as a second
unit director of photography alongside the Oscar
winning director, Andrzej Wajda. The motion
picture, “Pilatus und andere – Ein Film für
Karfreitag.” Sam also directed the successful
TV series, “Die Stadtklinik”, Endemol RTL
Germany, the adaptation of the American
soap opera “General Hospital.” He also
wrote and directed the thriller
“Nachtschicht,” Super RTL Germany.
Sam continued working on a number of
documentaries for the American broadcast
corporation landing him an Emmy Award
as a cameraman for “The apache tank
chopper” and for the documentary
on “Dr. Mengele,” the notorious Nazi doctor.
Among the projects, he has been involved in the production of the fortieth anniversary of the UN, as a producer director “Carnival de Merenge,” in the Madison Square Garden, and for the music videos “Teen Machine” for David Bowie as a director/director of photography and the music video for New Kids on the Block. He has also worked for ABC, CBS News, 20/20 and 60 minutes. His most prominent assignment included participating in the coverage for CBS News on the tragic World Trade Center attack of 9/11.
In the late nineties Sam proceed to become a member of The Directors Guild of Great Britain, after a series of seminars and workshops on camera acting in Germany and Israel. Upon moving to New York Sam continued lecturing actors in private sessions in the technique of lighting, choreographiccamera movement, continuity and stress management, etc.
Sam is currently a professor on the faculty of the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York City, teaching filmmaking and directing for film.
